To Determine Cable Depth
Step 1: Suspend the probe like a plumb bob near the suspected cable location. Move the probe back and forth at right angles to the cable route until the suspended probe is in a null position (minimum audible tone). Mark this position. The cable is directly beneath the mark.
Step 2: Hold the tone probe at a 45 degree angle (using the bubble level) near ground level. Move away from the original null position at right angles to the cable route. When the tone nulls out again, the distance between the original null position and the new null position is the same as cable depth. The shape of the terrain must be taken into account in making this measurement.
